The little forest on the way to Bill—incredibly romantic.
The long, narrow island of Juist is exposed to constant winds, which prevent the growth of extensive tree cover, as found, for example, on Norderney or Borkum. In the 1920s, biologist Dr. Otto Leege began planting particularly wind-resistant plants west of Lake Hammersee, thereby creating the nature reserve that you can explore on the designated trails.In this little grove, you can discover rare trees such as black alders and Carpathian birches. This small forest—this wonderful little grove—is something special, for the gnarled growth of the trees gives it an enchanted and ghostly atmosphere. Especially when it’s foggy, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported into the realm of legends and myths. The strong wind is the reason for this unique tree growth. On many trees, you can find green and gray scales.
While hiking through the grove, you’ll often spot deer. They’ve been living on our island for about 50 years. Hike or drive to the viewing platform in the grove. From there, you’ll not only have a beautiful view of the small, enchanted forest area but also a view of the North Sea. Especially on warm days, a hike through the grove is a great alternative to a day at the beach.
The grove is located in Protection Zone 1 (Quiet Zone) of the national park. Please observe the signs! Marked hiking trails lead you through this unique landscape. Dogs must be kept on a leash—as they must be everywhere on the island.

Das Wäldchen finden Sie auf dem Weg zur Bill ist ca. 5 km vom Ortskern entfernt. Sie können das Wäldchen zu Fuß am Strand oder über die Billstrasse, Hammerseestraße und den Weg zur Bill zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad erreichen. Accessibility
The grove can be found on the way to the Bill, about 5 km from the town center. You can reach the grove on foot along the beach or via Billstrasse, Hammerseestraße and the way to the Bill on foot or by bike.
It is also possible to reach the grove with a carriage ride to the Bill.

The path is quite long for those with walking difficulties and the ground in the forest is not very suitable.
