Dog ban on the bathing beach
Vacationing with Your Dog on Juist: Dog-Friendly Beaches, Leash Requirements, and Dog Restrictions
To protect your dog and other guests, dogs are strictly prohibited on the swimming beach.During the peak season (April 15–October 15), you may not bring your dog to the main beach; instead, you may only take them to the East and West dog beaches. However, from October 16 through April 14, your dog may accompany you to the beach on a leash !
Specifically, the regulations state the following:
“Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph 2, on the public beach (§ 3, para. 3), with the exception of dogs on the specially designated dog beach, (§ 3, para. 4), bringing any kind of animal to the public beach is prohibited during the period from April 15 through the end of the first half of October of each year.”
And why is that? Certainly not because we don’t want dogs to have fun! Juist is located right in the heart of the Wadden Sea National Park. Our beach borders directly on the dunes, which are home to numerous animals in need of protection. Unfortunately, dogs running loose endanger these very animals. That’s why dogs must always be on a leash on the beach. The beach is always bustling during the swimming season. We want to protect everyone (including our four-legged friends) by enforcing the leash requirement even on the dog beach. We thank everyone for complying!
