The Kalfamer Juist is the eastern end of the island. Similar to the west, you will also find extensive sandy areas here, but they are considerably greener, as new dunes are being created everywhere. The Kalfamer is the youngest area of the island.
When the Petriflut divided the island in 1651, there was still the small island of Buise, which was completely destroyed over the following decades. At that time, the east end of Juist was roughly at what is now the eastern edge of the village.
The primary dune fields at Kalfamer are an important bird resting and nesting area. Thousands of birds stop here to breed and rest. Therefore, during the breeding season from 01 April to 31 July, access to Kalfamer Juist is only possible within the framework of special guided tours. During the rest of the time, hiking through the Kalfamer is only permitted on the only approved path. You can recognise the path by the green peg markings. However, you should only do this circular walk at low tide in order to be able to keep a large distance from the bird colonies.
When arriving and departing by boat, you can often observe seals at the Kalfamer. With a bit of luck, you may also find amber at Kalfamer. However, please note that you are in the quiet zone of the "Lower Saxony Wadden Sea" National Park. You are not allowed to leave the paths. At the western border of the Kalfamer there is an information hut, which is manned by wardens-civil service workers during the closed season. The wardens pay very close attention to compliance with the rules for the protection of flora and fauna. The name "Kalfamer" comes from the Frisian word "Kalv" (English: calf) and "Hammer", i.e. low-lying, wet meadow. Summarised: Kalv-Hammer=Kalfamer = calf meadow.

Sie erreichen den Flugplatz über die Flugplatzstraße mit dem Fahrrad, der Kutsche (Kutschverkehr zum Flugplatz) oder zu Fuß. Sie können den Flugplatz auch zu Fuß über den Strand erreichen.

Vom Flugplatz führt ein Wanderweg bis zum Ostende der Insel. Unterschiedliche Naturuntergründe und Unebenheiten machen eine Erreichbarkeit für Rollstühle schwierig bis nicht möglich.
