Rules for dogs in the Wadden Sea National Park on Juist

Juist is located in the middle of the Wadden Sea National Park. This is certainly not a big surprise for most guests.
In order to protect the local animals (especially birds during the breeding season), strict rules apply for humans and pets. For full explanations, see the info flyer.
Summarised for you in brief:

Your dog must be on a lead in the quiet zone and the intermediate zone.
During the breeding season (01.04. - 31.07.) you must stay with your dog on the marked trails at all times.

These rules are there to protect the native animals. Due to badly behaved and/or free-roaming dogs, birds are flushed out, which means that they cannot search for their food and therefore cannot build up sufficient energy reserves, and cannot protect their young sufficiently.
