Zugvogeltage: Zugvögel und Klimawandel

13.10.2025 - 14.10.2026

With each passing year, human-induced climate change becomes more evident. How do the changes associated with this shift affect migratory birds? As cosmopolitans, migratory birds are at home in a wide variety of environments. Consequently, they are confronted with the consequences of climate change in multiple locations. How will they cope with rising sea levels in the Wadden Sea? How do they react to rising temperatures in their breeding grounds, and what are the consequences of increasing aridity in many of their wintering grounds? Reno Lottmann, an artist and ornithologist, provides an overview of the current state of research, discussing both the threats and the strategies birds use to adapt to these changes. The Wadden Sea, as a “hub” of East Atlantic bird migration, is at the center of these discussions.
